Zhina Installation

burning man 2023

The Zhina art installation is a tribute to Iranian women and the ongoing "Woman, Life, Freedom" movement sparked by the death of Mahsa (Zhina) Amini in September 2022. The work unfolds through winding passages of red fabric, evoking strands of hair carried by the wind; a potent symbol of defiance and liberation. Within this immersive environment, multimedia art, poetry, and soundscapes from Iran converge to create a sanctuary for healing, remembrance, and quiet reflection.

Co-created by Konoon Studio (Kimia Pakfar, Morteza Ansari, and Suzan Borazjani) alongside numerous dedicated volunteers, the installation invited participants to become part of the work itself by weaving their own messages and voices into its heart. Throughout the week at Black Rock City, Nevada, Zhina became a living canvas, shaped by collaborations with diverse artists and animated by performances that echoed a collective spirit of resistance, solidarity, and hope.
