design development | in progress

This bathroom renovation is an exercise in restraint, material clarity, and careful coordination, shaped by the needs of an aging couple seeking a space that supports accessibility without compromising on design quality. The intent was to create an environment that feels intuitive, safe, and comfortable for daily use, while maintaining a refined, custom aesthetic.

The design is anchored by a continuous stone surface that wraps the walls and extends into the vanity, creating a calm and cohesive backdrop. Within this clarity, accessibility is seamlessly integrated: clearances are generous, transitions are flush, and elements are positioned to support ease of movement and long-term use.

Custom wood millwork introduces warmth through softly radiused edges and integrated pulls, offering both a tactile richness and a softer, safer touch. Fixtures and lighting are kept minimal and precise—supportive elements that enhance function, improve visibility, and reduce visual noise.

Behind the scenes, plumbing, electrical, and heating systems were closely coordinated to ensure that accessibility features—such as future support for grab bars, optimized outlet placement, and integrated lighting—are fully embedded within the design rather than added on.

The result is a space that feels calm, resolved, and effortless—where accessibility and thoughtful design are not in conflict, but fully aligned.
